Vaccine uptake among direct service workers (DSWs) is particularly important for personal health and safety and to the many individuals that DSWs support, due to the high contact, personal nature of home care. However, DSWs experience many barriers to vaccination including culturally competent and accessible information, paid sick leave and/or time off, and transportation.

In this webinar, experts in the field will discuss demographics of the DSW workforce, barriers to vaccination, strategies to increase vaccine confidence and uptake, and promising practices.

Panelists:

  • Cory Nourie, Director of Community Services, Delaware Division of Developmental Disabilities Services
  • Ramu Iyer, National Alliance of Direct Support Professionals Advisory Council Member
  • Robert Espinoza, Vice President of Policy, PHI
  • Trudy Rebert, Federal Policy Counsel, National Domestic Workers Alliance

This is a timely webinar, as our senior centers, congregate meal sites and adults day services sites are reopening

So crucial for workers to be vaccinated when there can once agin be broad access to direct home care supports!  Thanks, Amy!

Curious about use of social media.  This is an older, new Americans' workforce.  Imp[act of social media?

Yesterday our statewide COVID-19  Vaccine Communications Group meeting, our Department of Health, Medicaid and VA all reported that access is less of an issue - education has to be our focus and there are much misinformation, including from Clinical providers. The rural/frontier is especially challenging, the DOH surveyed this population and they stated that they haven't been impacted in the pandemic beyond travel. Utah is in a major drought, this is much more concerning to many of our rural population's daily life (from their perspective).

It was a little disheartening. As the speaker just mentioned, we are looking at reaching out to employers and host Vaccine clinics.

Roger Auerbach Great info, as usual, Jen!  Big takeaway I keep forgetting is that people need multiple approaches.  "Moveable" requires many different attempts to bring ease to getting vaccinated.

Cannot underestimate power of paid time off to get vaccinated.  Also like peer stories.  People-to-people communication can be powerful.
