Primary Care Collaborative: Government and Primary Care: In Service to the VacciNATION
Description: The Primary Care Collaborative will host a conversation with special guests from the White House and state government, who will talk about the role of primary care in the administration of and education on the COVID vaccines. They will also discuss the strategies the Biden administration and state public health departments have used to boost confidence in the vaccines and help Americans get vaccinated, from the administration’s Month of Action in June to state innovations such as involving barber shops in vaccine outreach. The U.S. has not reached its vaccination goals yet, and this discussion will provide some insights on how we can get there by leveraging primary care.

Join me here in 10 minutes to hear about how to leverage relationships with primary care for vaccine outreach. I am thinking we may get some great tips for ADRCs!

Dr. Bechara Choucair shared...
Where we are: Progress - 68% have at least one dose, 88% of seniors have at least one dose - still have millions who need to get vaccinated.
Where we are heading:
1) Continue to integrate vaccine efforts within health care system (hospitals, primary care, ERs, health plans, etc)
2) Bring vaccine into where people live and work - schools, pop-up clinics, work with employers
3) Continue to focus on equity - still have disparities and need to be able to close those disparities, seeing good progress, but must keep equity at center of work.

Interesting survey just referenced here from Commonwealth Fund https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/2021/jul/room-where-it-happens
"Primary care providers may be key to reaching both groups. That’s because they can offer vaccinations as part of the routine care they deliver, while also serving as trusted messengers for patients who harbor concerns."

Liz Woodward Howard Haft, ED Maryland Primary Care Program Maryland Dept of Health shared a Maryland update about how the state worked with primary care providers and the equity task force. Very cool.

Information sharing - bidirectional sharing of information - "what do we need to do our job better?" - platforms for learning and sharing. The Health Information Exchange (HIE) was an effective way to examine equity and share information. https://www.crisphealth.org/
