Key Takeaways from VDC Office Hour Session One – what tips do you have for completing person-centered Veteran spending plans?
During the first VDC Office Hour Session, Understanding VDC Veteran Authorizations and Developing Person-Centered Veteran Spending Plans, we heard from Lisa Drouin and David Scholl from the Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources (GWAAAR) and Samantha Arndt from the Milwaukee Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) who shared their process for developing person-centered Veteran spending plans. Key takeaways included:
- It’s important that spending plans clearly reflect the Veteran’s needs and goals, while also specifically illustrating how the goals will be met through services, goods, caregivers, workers’ hours/schedules, and back up planning;
- Communication between the VAMC and VDC provider about Veteran spending plans is essential to meeting the needs of Veterans enrolled in the program; and
- Keep in mind that life changes – Veteran spending plans need to have flexibility to meet changes in needs, services, or preferences.
What are your tips and best practices for completing, submitting, and amending VDC spending plans?
