Here is today’s Monday Mailer for you:
National Assistive Technology Awareness Day
April 22 was National Assistive Technology Awareness Day, and this year's theme says it all: "Assistive Technology. Everywhere. Everyone." Assistive technology, or AT, is more common than most people think. It is woven into our everyday lives, and it benefits people of all ages and abilities. National AT Awareness Day is a celebration of innovation and independence. It is a reminder that the tools people need to live full and connected lives are out there and should be within reach for everyone. Learn more about National AT Awareness Day here.
The No Wrong Door and AT Collaboration Checklist provides a road map to promote this important access partnership. The checklist includes areas of collaboration, intersection points, and tools and resources.
Maryland Department of Aging Secretary Interview
The Milken Institute interviewed the Maryland Department of Aging Secretary, Carmel Roques, for their “Stories from the Field” series. Secretary Roques shares, “The Maryland Access Point (MAP) is the front door for services for older people. Part of what we've done is to train other agencies so they know how to connect older Marylanders with MAP. We realized that when people call 211, a lot of times they just never made it over to MAP. Now those two entry systems are integrated, and we have a way to do a warm handoff between systems. We are also using artificial intelligence to triage needs, so the people who really need hands-on, high-touch navigation through a very complicated situation get the appropriate level of support. We're also looking at financial longevity and how individuals can become better informed about how to plan for 20 to 30 years beyond retirement. For example, we're looking at how we can leverage the State Health Insurance Assistance Program dollars we receive to fund education around Medicare enrollment and to make sure people are better informed about their long-term care coverage earlier in their planning.” Read the full interview here.
