Here is today’s Monday Mailer for you:

Older Americans Month

May is Older Americans Month, a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm our commitment to serving older adults. This year’s theme, Champion Your Health, focuses on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging. Much like person-centered counseling (a key element of a No Wrong Door system), this theme encourages taking an active role in managing your own health, advocating for yourself, accessing preventive care, and making informed decisions that support independence. Join us in elevating evidence-based approaches, everyday actions, and community partnerships that help people lead healthier, more independent lives. Visit ACL’s Older Americans Month website for ready-to-use materials to support your outreach here.

Community Living Policy Center  Disability Policy Resources

The Community Living Policy Center (CLPC) has created two new resources about the research-backed, positive impacts of Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) and the Money Follows the Person (MFP) Program. The policy brief “Home and Community-Based Services Improve Outcomes While Reducing Costs” synthesizes decades of research demonstrating the value of Medicaid HCBS. The brief highlights evidence showing that access to high-quality HCBS leads to better outcomes while also helping to reduce overall health care costs. Access the brief here. The second resource, “Money Follows the Person: Promoting Freedom, State Innovation, & Cost Savings” highlights the importance of making MFP permanent to ensure long-term stability for a proven, cost-effective program that improves the lives of older adults and people with disabilities. Access the resource here.

Florida Artificial Intelligence Use Case

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Abuse Hotline integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into its workflow to improve the timeliness and effectiveness of report prioritization. Historically, determining which reports required immediate review was a manual, time-consuming process that strained staff resources and risked delays in responding to the most urgent cases. With federal funding through the American Rescue Plan Act, the state invested in an innovative solution: AI-powered intake prioritization. Using natural language processing and machine learning, the system analyzes narrative intake data from web-based reports and flags cases requiring immediate human review. AI acts as a coach, not a player, supporting professional judgment rather than replacing it. This distinction was critical for building trust among staff and ensuring responsible use of the technology. This initiative is emerging as a model for how states can use technology to strengthen adult and aging services and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations. Read more here.
