ACL Funding Opportunity: Research to Spread and Scale the Impact of Evidence-Based Falls Prevention Programs and Interventions

Through this funding opportunity, ACL plans to award up to three grants to entities who have significant expertise in implementation research in the health and/or social sciences, and demonstrated experience conducting research with the aging network and/or community care hubs. The intent of this opportunity is to fund implementation research that brings to scale and evaluates the impact of evidence-based multifactorial falls prevention programs on falls among older adults. It focuses on a collaborative approach between the aging network, experts in falls prevention research, and experts in implementation science and research. Caregiver Corner 

Join ACL's National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) for the webinar, “Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD): Focus on Interdisciplinary Care and Caregiver Lived Experience,” on Tuesday, August 12th from 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET. This session will provide a general understanding of the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and FTD, with an emphasis on the young-onset and atypical caregiver experience. Presenters will highlight the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis, care planning, and caregiver support to promote the highest quality of life possible for people living with a diagnosis and their families. The webinar will also cover communication strategies, behavior management, caregiver support resources, and the lived experiences of FTD caregivers. Join the California Department of Aging for the Master Plan for Aging System Change Symposium: Long-Term Services and Supports Financing, Affordability, and Access on Thursday, July 31st, consisting of a two-part webinar focused on the findings of the Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) Financing Initiative and the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Gap Analysis. You will hear from subject matter experts and stakeholders who will speak to the challenges, opportunities, what the research has uncovered, the gaps in service delivery, and options for addressing these longstanding issues. This work aligns with the Master Plan of Aging (2025-26) Initiatives #23, #24, #74, #75.

Part I of the Webinar (1:30p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT – 3:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT) will focus on the recent findings of the LTSS Financing Initiative, including the current and projected needs of California’s aging population, results from a statewide survey and focus groups, and an overview of state and national policy options.

Part II of the Webinar (4:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT – 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT) will highlight the findings of the non-Medi-Cal HCBS Gap Analysis, including key issues impacting underserved populations. A stakeholder reactor panel will reflect on the population implications and how to meet the needs of California’s diverse population of older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers.
