ACL Awards $2M to Implement the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers
ACL has awarded its second round of grants to advance state implementation of the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. Each of the five state units on aging (SUAs) will receive two-year cooperative agreements with a total budget of up to $435,000:
- Alabama Department of Senior Services
- Minnesota Board on Aging
- Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services
- Pennsylvania Department of Aging
- South Carolina Department on Aging
States will collaborate with their state developmental disabilities agencies, as well as at least one additional state agency (e.g., public health, Medicaid, transportation, labor) and a tribe or tribal agency. These grants are designed to increase awareness of and access to a range of services and resources that lead to improved outcomes for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers. Activities will focus on engaging populations with the greatest economic and social needs. Over the past year, the first cohort of implementation projects has yielded promising results, laying a strong foundation for this work.
Direct Care Workforce Technical Assistance Opportunity
The Direct Care Workforce (DCW) Strategies Center, supported by the Administration for Community Living, is offering a new, expedited option for states seeking short-term support on direct care workforce issues in their home and community-based services (HCBS) programs. Direct care workers are critical to the delivery of services accessed through a state’s No Wrong Door system. This flexible technical assistance model offers short, focused support (less than 20 hours over no more than 45 days) for state agencies that are not currently part of the 2025–2026 State Advancement Lab or Peer Learning Collaborative. Each engagement connects a state agency with national experts to help answer specific, concrete questions, or address a clearly defined challenge related to recruiting, training, supporting, and retaining the HCBS direct care workforce. The emphasis is on practical help and clear next steps, not long reports. Interested states should fill out this form.
