Here is today’s Monday Mailer for you:
New Resource Released
- Over the last 20 years, states have invested in No Wrong Door (NWD) Systems to increase access to streamlined, person-centered support. As a state-led effort, NWD’s strong governance structure paves the way for coordination of policy, technology, and resource allocation across a wide community-based organization (CBO) network. This new document, a complement to the Key Elements of a NWD System of Access to LTSS for All Populations and All Payers, offers resources to states and territories as they operationalize their NWD vision. Links to resources and state examples in this document are categorized by the four NWD System Key Functions: State Governance and Administration, Public Outreach and Coordination with Key Referral Sources, Person Centered Counseling (PCC), and Streamlined Eligibility for Public Programs. ADvancing States is pleased to announce the release of two issue briefs on efforts to connect low-income Medicare beneficiaries to public services and benefits.
- The first brief, “Strengthening How Clients are Connected to Benefits: Findings from the 2023 Information and Referral/Assistance National Survey”, shares results from the 2023 national survey of information and referral/assistance (I&R/A) agencies and provides information on benefits screening, assistance, and outreach within I&R/A aging and disability networks. Benefits play a critical role in assisting with financial needs, helping to cover Medicare and other costs, and freeing up income to pay for an individual’s transportation, utilities, and food, among other expenses.
- The second brief, “Increasing Awareness and Access to Medicare Low-Income Subsidies and Other Benefits”, shares results from a survey of state aging and disabilities members, including state long-term services and supports (LTSS) directors, on efforts to inform individuals transitioning from Medicaid to Medicare about Medicare low-income subsidies. The brief draws on the promising practices of certain states to increase benefits awareness and enrollment into public benefits. Additionally, the survey provides follow-up information on states' use of benefits access initiatives, processes, and tools implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist individuals in applying for public benefits. The briefs were developed with support from the National Council on Aging (NCOA). Read the briefs here.
