Wisconsin: ADRC and Tribal Agency Partnerships

Wisconsin has established strong, collaborative partnerships between its Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) and 11 Tribal partner agencies. These collaborations are designed to expand culturally responsive access to services for older adults and individuals with disabilities. By working closely with Tribal Aging and Disability Resource Specialists (ADRSs), ADRCs strive to provide unbiased options counseling, outreach, and assistance that reflect community priorities and cultural context.

ADRC and ADRS partnerships coordinate on a range of activities, including joint outreach and marketing efforts, shared training and technical assistance, functional screening and Adult Protective Services (APS) referrals, and community engagement strategies. A notable example of innovative community engagement is Wisconsin’s statewide ADRC marketing campaign, led by the Department of Health Services, which raises awareness and encourages communities to “know us before you need us” by making ADRC contact information easy to find. The campaign includes brochures, television and radio ads, digital ads, and outdoor signage that are customizable for Tribal partners and local communities. Another notable example  is  the  monthly radio show Dementia Detectives: Clues to Living Well. Co-hosted by a Tribal dementia care specialist and a county dementia care specialist, the program delivers culturally informed education and provides support for individuals and caregivers navigating dementia, through a strong community support network. Through these coordinated efforts, Wisconsin’s ADRCs and Tribal partners deliver trusted, culturally responsive access to aging and disability services statewide – helping communities thrive with dignity and independence.
