CIL Partnerships

Several CCHs from the aging and nonprofit sector have expressed interest in partnering with local Centers for Independent Living (CILs) as part of their Community Care Hub network.

  • Have you partnered with local CILs? If so, how did you establish these relationships and what services and supports do your CIL partners provide?
  • If you are a CIL, what partnerships do you have with other types of CBOs? What services and supports do your partnership organizations provide?

Yes, our AAAs and k4ad partner with the CILs. Relationships were established by reaching out and starting an open and honest conversation about collaborating. The largest collaboration was related to transitioning nursing home residents back home with a NWD-ACL COVID-19 grant. The AAA was responsible for the Intake, SDOH assessment, Social Isolation Scale, and Referral to the CIL. The CIL was responsible for duties related to helping with the transition, including purchasing items needed to set up household and thereafter, enhanced case management. Constant communication is the key.

Additionally, AAAs refer individuals with physical disabilities to their local CIL to receive services delivered by a center for independent living.

We have made relationships with CILs - contact the Director and request them to come to a staff meeting and share what they do and about the consumers that they serve.

Another approach is offer a mini meeting/training with both organizations to each present about their organizations. In that discussion, you may become aware of gaps in services and determine how you could work together.

Yes, there was an established relationship between our President of the AAA and the Executive Director.  He  was invited to and sits on our advisory committee for the CCH. His engagement has been very helpful in making introductions to his counterparts and their association to further dialog with each entity on how we can work together.

Hello from California! In California, AAAs and CILs (known in CA as Independent Living Centers) have a very close relationship in forming an ADRC partnership. AAA-ILC partnership is also required in State Statute in order to form an ADRC. The State Unit on Aging (California Department of Aging) recently put together an educational webinar featuring ILC representatives speaking on the topics of independent living philosophy, programs/services, and more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4TZPpmrLCk

Hope this was helpful to you :)
