Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology webinar: MAC, Inc and CRISP HIE

Chesapeake Regional Information Systems for Patients (CRISP), the state-designated Health Information Exchange (HIE) in Maryland, and Maryland Access Point (MAP), an Area Agency on Aging, presented on the ONC’s Social Determinants of Health Information Exchange Learning Forum on the technical implementation of their partnership.

CRIPS is a non-profit organization that facilitates the electronic transfer of clinical information between disparate health information systems, with a focus on interoperability and addressing the heterogeneous needs of the region. They aim to create a “whole person record” that includes both clinical and social care data. MAC partners with CRISP as a way communicate their value as a community-based organization back to their health care partners.

MAC demonstrates their value to health care partners through cost savings to the entire health care system and improvement in the quality of care. There is also a discussion of how they see upcoming regulatory requirements (as we’ve discussed in our ECHO Sessions) incentivizing more social needs data collection and referrals.

This was part of a larger webinar on May 23rd, 2023, with presentations from ONC on measurement and evaluation of social determinants of health (SDOH) services and CMS on their quality measurement work.

The CRISP and MAC presentation begins at minute 40.
